How To Bet On MLB Odds

MLB is a statistician’s dream and, thus, the perfect sport to bet on. MLB odds feature multiple betting options. You can bet on everything from the 1st inning runs to the first 5 inning results to the game’s outcome and overall season results to the performance of a single player. MLB Run Lines, aka Spreads

When looking at MLB odds, you may see the run line, which is similar to the spread in other sports. MLB run lines are commonly set at 1.5. For example, if the New York Yankees are playing the Houston Astros and the Yanks are listed at -1.5, they are the favorite and need to win by at least 2 runs. In this scenario, the Astros would be listed at +1.5 and could lose by up to 1 run, and an Astros bet would still cash in.

MLB Moneyline Odds

If you find the moneyline when looking at the MLB odds, then you are betting on the straight-up winner. The score doesn’t matter. For example, if the Toronto Blue Jays are playing the Boston Red Sox and the Blue Jays are listed at -125, a $125 bet would win you $100 while the underdog Red Sox would be a +115 underdog, and a $100 bet would win you $115. Either team will need to just win the game for your bet to cash in.

MLB Totals, aka Over/Under Bets

Over/Under bets are when you bet on whether the total runs for a game will go OVER or UNDER the set TOTAL. For example, if the MLB odds over/under for the Dodgers vs. Braves game is set at 8.5, that means the teams would have to score a combined nine runs or more to be considered over. Eight or fewer, and the under-bettors are winners.

YRFI/NRFI MLB Odds

Other popular MLB bets are Yes Run First Inning (YRFI) and No Run First (NRFI) Inning. These MLB props focus on whether a run will be scored in the first inning of a game. A YRFI bet predicts that at least one run will be scored by either team in the first inning. If either team scores a run during this inning, the bet wins; if the first inning ends with no runs scored, the bet loses. Conversely, an NRFI bet predicts that no runs will be scored by either team in the first inning. If the first inning concludes with a score of 0-0, the bet wins; if either team scores a run, the bet loses. These bets are popular among bettors because they provide quick results, with the outcome of the wager determined within the first inning of the game.

First 5 Innings MLB Odds

In MLB betting, a wager on the first 5 innings (often abbreviated as F5) focuses on the outcome of the game through the first five innings rather than the full nine innings. This type of bet can take several forms. The F5 Moneyline predicts which team will be leading at the end of the first five innings; if the chosen team is ahead after five innings, the bet wins, otherwise, it loses. The F5 Run Line, similar to a point spread, involves a handicap to level the playing field, requiring the favored team to be leading by a certain number of runs (typically -0.5 runs) for the bet to win, while the underdog can either be leading or tied for a bet on them to win. Additionally, the F5 Over/Under (Total Runs) bet predicts whether the combined total runs scored by both teams in the first five innings will be over or under a specified number; if the total runs exceed the set number, the “over” bet wins, and if they fall short, the “under” bet wins. These first 5 innings bets are popular because they focus on the performance of the starting pitchers, often considered the most predictable part of the game, and provide a quicker resolution than full-game bets.

MLB Betting Rules

Action Pitchers

1. All wagers will be action pitchers and maintain the same line regardless of (if any) pitcher changes.
2. All MLB, College baseball, Softball, and Foreign/International baseball leagues wagers are now Action pitchers. Listed Pitchers are no longer offered.
3. This applies to Money Lines, Game Totals, Run Lines, Team Totals, 1st 5 Innings, Team to score 1st, Alternative Run Lines, Series, and props.

Game Money lines

1. The game must go at least 5 innings or 4½ if the home team is winning for Money line to have action.
2. Wagers include extra innings (including Preseason Games).
3. If the game is called before completion, the winner will be determined by the score of the last full inning unless the home team has tied or taken the lead before the game has been called.
4. Suspended games do not carry over for wagering purposes.

Game Run lines

1. The game must go 9 innings or 8½ if the home team is winning for run line to have action.
2. Run lines are always action pitchers.
3. 1 ½ runs are added to the underdogs score or subtracted from the favorites score when determining the results of the game.
4. The favorite must win by at least two runs to win the run line wager.
5. The underdog can lose by no more than one run for the wager to be a winner.
6. Extra innings count towards wager.
7. If a game goes into extra innings, run lines will always take action.
8. Suspended games do not carry over for wagering purposes.

Game Totals/Team Totals

1. The game must go 9 innings or 8½ if the home team is winning for Totals to have action.
2. Totals are always action pitchers.
3. Extra innings count towards wager.
4. If a game is suspended before completion but after 9 innings, wagers on the total still have action.
5. Suspended games do not carry over for wagering purposes.

1^st 5-Innings Lines

1. The game must go 5 complete innings or 4½ if the home team is winning for action on the money line.
2. The game must go 5 complete innings for action on run lines and totals.
3. All 1st 5 inning wagers are action pitchers.

Total Runs+Hits+Errors (RHE)

1. Wagers are always action pitchers.
2. The game must go 9 innings or 8½ if the home team is winning for action.
3. If a game goes into extra innings, R+H+E will always take action.

Team to Score 1^st

1. Wagers are always action pitchers.
2. Extra Innings count towards the wager.
3. Once a run is scored, the prop will be graded regardless of how long the game lasts.

Alternate Run lines

1. Wagers are always action pitchers.
2. The game must go 9 innings or 8½ if the home team is winning for action.

Team to Win Series

1. All wagers will have action regardless of the starting pitchers for Series Wagers.
2. Wagers on Regular Season baseball series are always based on the first three games played of the series.
3. 1st 3 games of series on their scheduled date count only. If series is 2-0 and 3rd game is postponed Action stands, any prior cancelation is No Action.
4. On four Game Series scheduled by MLB, BetUS does not count all four games for Series Price; instead, BetUS only takes into account the first three games scheduled to determine the winner of Series Price.
5. Team to win Series can not be hooked up to any period of the same game.
6. Wagers on Post Season (Playoff) baseball series are based on the team to win the series, regardless of the number of games involved.

Will there be a run in the 1^st Inning?

1. Wagers are always action pitchers.
2. 1^st inning must be completed for bets to have action.

MLB Grand Salami

1. The wager involves betting over or under the total runs scored in all MLB games scheduled for a specific day.
2. All scheduled games must go at least 9 innings, 8½ if the home team is winning for the wagers to have action.
3. For the Grand Salami, all wagers will have action regardless of the starting pitchers.

Game/Team Props

1. For Props involving statistical totals for a single game, the game must be official on the money line for wagers to have action, regardless of whether the total has been reached or not.
2. Unless specified, extra innings count towards wagers.
3. For first to X-based props, wagers have action once the event has occurred.

Player Props

1. The player must be in the starting lineup for wagers to have action. Total Bases equal only to Bases gained with Hits (Single=1, Double=2, Triple=3 and HR=4). The game must be played for at least 8½ innings if the home team is ahead, for Player prop grading purposes. If the total bases have been reached, then said wager will be graded.
2. Extra innings count toward wagers.
3. All props are action pitchers.

Baseball Futures

1. The team playing will be required to complete at least 160 games for wagers to be graded. Anything else will be considered void. Pending wagers that have already gone over the required number will be graded accordingly.
2. For grading purposes, no extra tiebreaker games for wildcard or division will count toward the regular-season win total.
3. American and National League Pennant winners will be determined by the team representing each league in the World Series.
4. All future bets have action.
5. All futures will be graded at the end of the designated event.

Live Betting

Non-MLB Baseball

1. If a game has been postponed or canceled before its due start time then all bets have deemed no action.
2. When wagering on total runs (over/under) the game must go 9 innings (8½ innings if the home team is ahead on top of the 9th) to have action.
3. Rules for Run Line (handicap) and Alternate Run Line (alternate handicap) wagers are the same as those for Non MLB baseball totals.
4. All bets are action regardless of who pitches for each team.
5. If a team is winning by a large enough margin at a certain point in the game and the mercy rule is called, games are considered as complete for betting purposes, all wagers on Money lines, Totals, and Run lines will have action. (NCAA, High School).
6. If a game is called, suspended, or declared a tie in extra innings, the score will be determined after the last full inning unless the home team scores to tie, or takes the lead in the bottom half of the inning, in which case the score is determined at the time the game is called.

MLB History

Major League Baseball (MLB) is quintessentially American. It’s as American as hot dogs and apple pie. The origins of the sport can be traced back to the early 19th century in the United States. The game evolved from older bat-and-ball games, such as rounders and cricket, which were played in England. The first official rules for the sport, known as the “Knickerbocker Rules,” were established in 1845 by Alexander Cartwright, a member of the Knickerbocker Base Ball Club in New York City. The first recorded game under these rules took place on June 19, 1846, in Hoboken, New Jersey. The MLB was officially formed in 1903, making MLB the oldest major professional sports league in the world.
